Shared Stories Mural

The Housing Development Board (HDB’s) Arts, Culture & Entertainment programme was looking for vendors such as Playeum interested in participating in their Corporate responsibility programme proposing murals, sculptures to be created by residents engaging them by proposing ideas or themes related to their precinct or the project.

As part of this venture the mural wall community project was part of HDB’s initiative for new residents at Telok Blangah Towers under the theme ‘Memories from Telok Blangah’.

Prior to the creation of the mural, sessions by us as the Mentor Artist involved creating a questionnaire to find out resident’s ideas and memories of their neighbourhood (by asking them what they would like to see in their neighbourhood, or their favourite part of their precinct, etc.) thus including them in coming up with ideas for the art project that would be used as the starting point for the design of the mural.

After gathering feedback, Playeum along with the Mentor Artist would design and execute the art project engaging residents in the execution of the art piece – mural wall through drawing and painting workshops encouraging bonding and interaction to bring out the theme “Shared Stories” Landscape of memories, a visual juxtaposition of imagery associated with the emotion within a place.
