Wishes Mural at SAM

The 8Q at SAM, is the Singapore Art Museum’s multidisciplinary contemporary art extension, at the heart of the city, a place for homegrown artists and the public to engage in a lively art exchange. Make-A-Wish Foundation Singapore’s mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

As a non-profit organisation, they are constantly seeking to raise funds so that they can grant 100-120 wishes each year and meet their goal of reaching every medically eligible child in Singapore.

Volunteers help us by providing support in fundraising and development; Social Creatives, a leading non-profit social enterprise for public arts along with Make-A-Wish organised an interactive art workshop designed and conducted by artist-mentor Arti Sen with the theme of community.

The workshop, a multidisciplinary and holistic contemporary art experience included specific art techniques such as making triangular foil wishes, inscribing a wish for a small donation, pasting it on canvas and painting the backdrop to create an organic mural through storytelling encouraging self-expression and originality.

Volunteers and members of the general public created patterns using their imagination making their own wishing mural, reflecting their stories, wishes and dreams through writing and pattern-making.
